The characters played by Michael Dunn, Brioni Farrell, Roland La Starza (Season 2), Chuck O'Brien (Season 2), and Ford Rainey (Season 3).

K Mills: They were all short??

By that standard, Bob Conrad would have qualified. Keep searching—and a merry weekend to all.

I thought it might be that they were all on Star Trek but that is not the case. Then I thought it was they were all on Bonanza. Nope!

I think I am going to need a few clues.

Are you telling me that you Googled those other series and reviewed all their guest-cast lists? Are you that dedicated? Do you think me that insane?

I think I am going to need a few clues.

I began by giving you three. What you're looking for works for the character played by La Starza in Season 2, but not in Season 3; for the character played by Rainey in Season 3, but not in Seasons 2 and 4; and so on. On the other hand, it worked for Dunn's signature character in every season.

Now, doesn't that throw a cold blue light on everything?

I was working on the theory that what all of these characters had in common was that they survived their episode, because I knew that Ford Rainey's characters in seasons two and four died but that his character in season three didn't. Also the Chuck O'Brien character in season one died but the one in season two didn't. I wasn't sure exactly who Joe Kirby was, though, so I watched Bogus Bandits to find out (should have watched it last week, I know) and saw Jim shoot Kirby and my theory. Sigh.

Welcome back, Leslie. I thought you'd lost your way from the site.

I wasn't sure exactly who Joe Kirby was, though, . . .

That's exactly the angle you and your fellow players should be working. What you confess is the key to this quiz.

Oh, I'm here. I'm just too befuddled to contribute anything useful.

Your sanity has never been in doubt

I did miss the part about them being characters they played but it didn't help.

Don't think outside the box. Think inside.

That's a joke, son—why aren't you laughing? Pay attention when I'm talking to you!

My overnight thought, though I hesitated to suggest anything so simple, was that they were all on the wrong side of the law.

However, in light of this morning's clue--they were all chickens?

They all were convicted of a crime? I'd say went to jail, but I'm not sure if O'Brien's character fits that, since he fell off a dock before being transported to Devil's Island. Then again, he'd obviously already been in some jail!

Hmm, but did Loveless go to jail at least once a season? No, I don't think so.

They all confessed their neverending love for me just before dying?

Just a guess.

I'll give this one last try before shutting it down. If nothing else, I'm delighted that last weekend's quiz has drawn out from their hiding places so many from whom we've lately heard so little.

Line them all up:

Michael Dunn played "Miguelito Loveless."
Brioni Farrell played "Voulee" ("The Night of the Brain").
Roland La Starza played "Joe Kirby" ("The Bogus Bandits").
Chuck O'Brien played "Henri Couteau" ("The Bottomless Pit").
Ford Rainey played "Garrison" ("The Iron Fist").

Isn't the answer obvious? Isn't someone ready to snatch the feather away?

Um, a rather obvious and extremely flattering reference to my current story, 'The Night of the Cold Blue Light'. I think you may be familiar with it?

I was thinking perhaps the characters' names were taken from members of the TV crew, but I don't remember Loveless in the credits - how about Heinrich Sharp instead?

I am at a loss!

Hey All,
Here's my guess:
Miguelito Loveless was named after Michael(little Michael in Spanish) Garrison
Voulee was named after the Costume designer Vou Lee Giokaris
Joe Kirby is assisstant to the producers Joe Kirby
Henry Couteau refers to writer Henry Sharpe
and Garrison refers to Michael Garrison

Think inside . . . joke, son—

Honorable mentions: KMills, Redhead 1617, couldron, lleroy, MonkeeMaven, Silver.
The Anabella: To MaudeB, for finding the key.
The Arabella: For tuning all the locks, Herr Ostropoyer.

By John Kneubuhl's own admission (see The Kesler Bible), his most famous villain was given the diminutive form of the first name of Messrs Garrison and Dunn.
