I was a big fan of Patterson although he was a small heavyweight but a class act and was always in great shape and gave 100% .I was happy to see him on the www. I remember that friday night it was on like it was yesterday .
"The Juggernaut" is hardly my favorite West. and Floyd Patterson wasn't much of an actor. But reading the gentleman's obituaries helps me to understand better one aspect of that episode I have appreciated: Patterson's basic decency and gentleness. Back in the late '50s and early '60s, when he was in his heavyweight prime, sportswriters marveled at how Patterson would beat his opponents in the ring to the mat, then drag their limp bodies back to their own corners after the referees had signaled the end of a bout. Unbelievable then, and now.
