couldron: Everything was done before I got here.

I wouldn't say that, Mary. Some good early guesses came fast from the chute, but this quiz isn't already locked up by anyone, by any means.

2. Kerosene's mate is copper in Flaming Ghost. They were both stolen from government stores.

10. A flame for one reaction that generates another is from Falcon, where Artie told Munez that a piece of metal exposed to a flame would glow green (one reaction), but really turning up the burner (its flame was blue, by the way) sent up a yellow flare to tell Jim to come a-running (another reaction).

This was a hard-fought quiz that brought out the best in our colorful regulars and the worst in your quizmeister, who got careless at a couple of points. No need to recap everything, only the ones still in dispute:

Hidden but big eyes: West: "Midnight, Steinlen. Take off those glasses, and let's see those big, blue eyes" ("Underground Terror," Act III).

A burnished serpent: Webster's definition of "bunished" is "polished, lustrous, glossy," which fits the big Aztec snake in "Monte's Hordes" (Act III: Look, but don't touch). The one I confess to having in mind was, I thought, a gimme: "The Golden Cobra."

A precious oxymoron, in which the greedy dies: RedHead tumbled to the oxymoron—black gold—but misideintified the episode and reference. Colonel Mayo (another color?) drowned in a vat of oil in "The Golden Cobra" (Act IV).

A concern for one's color that's no concern at all: By reassuring him that it would fade in three days' time, Jim at least feigned concern for Artie's Venusian tint. This one was a toughie: When West is returned to the laboratory to meet The New Janus, Loveless feigns concern for West's color. To that, JW replies with exasperation, "You didn't bring me here to ask about my color." The doctor agrees ("Terror Stalked the Town," Act III).

A powder of one hue that spells terror of another: At this, the Quizmeister's face turns Cherry Red. By mentally conflating two Loveless episodes, I goofed and thought that the flammable powder in "The Night of the Green Terror" was white, when, of course, it was green. So everyone who played received a free point for that one.

How to identify members of an insurgent militia: Here is where some of you outdid yourselves, by reminding me of the rainbow of militias West has confronted: Crimson Dragons or bluecoats or greencoats. If you guessed any or all of these, you got a point for each. The only one that you didn't mention is the one I was thinking of when I made up the question: "Red- Eyed Madmen."

So where does that leave last wekend's Happy Players? With—

Honorable Mentions to couldron and Spring, each with one point;
Bold brown Henriettas to Leroy and Blue with, respectively, 3 and 4.5 points;
And 8.5 and 9 points, respectively, to Mills and RedHead, close enough to declare a two-way tie for first place. Each of those worthies enjoys a classy maroon Anabella. Congratulations to all; see ya next weekend.

I am just totally amazed! How do you guys get these? Some yes, but I'm just not quick enough to remember all these episodes. Guess when I was so young and watching them, I didn't realize I was just watching Jim and not picking up on the details.

Ah, but that's the point of all these riddles and quizes: To keep the flame burning brightly, return to the canon with fresh, wiser eyes!

mcbride5j, I submit that by definition if you were watching Jim you were picking up on the details.
This quiz was truly beautiful. It's my second favorite, after the music quiz.

Ooops, I have to correct myself. This is now officially my favorite quiz, because the music thread I was thinking about is not a quiz. I keep thinking it is. It was a discussion in response to a post by Norman in August 2002. The title of the thread is ''Alternate WWW 2cnd season theme music'', it's about the composers of WWW music.
I'd most definitely love to see another WWW music quiz, ccb, so by all means!

Stay tuned. Music quizes are hard, for all sorts of reasons. When I get around to it, I'll need your help in encouraging our hearty band to join with you in playing!
