A guess before I break out the DVDs: A disguised Artie to the bar patrons in 'Undead'.

Not Undead.

Break out the DVDs!

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: It's a pleasure.

I can hear Mr. West saying this, but to whom? I'll take a stab: Mr. West to Col. Rath in 'Arrow'.

How about a clue?

Gold! gold! in all ages the curse of mankind,
Thy fetters are forged for the soul and the mind.
The limbs may be free as the wings of a bird,
And the mind be the slave of a look and a word.
To gain thee men barter eternity's crown,
Yield honour, affection, and lasting renown.
- Park Benjamin

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?

You've got the right speaker, CL, and the right episode, so I'm going to give it to you. He actually says it to Mosley during their initial conversation in Mosley's house--I believe after Mosley complains that he never got the girls like Jim does.

So take it away!

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?

Yep, also one of the very few episodes (and the only one in season one) where Artie gets the girl* and Jim doesn't! I told you it was easy...

*Girls in this case. (Okay, women.)

That was easy for me since I completely love that episode--One of my total favorites, and great that it's one of the very first of the whole series to just keep you glued to the show forever after!!

Be back in a few with a new quote!!

Hmm, actually I just watched Flaming Ghost, which is season one, and at the end the dressmaker looks at Artie, says, "Mr Gordon" in such a voice, and he then offers to escort her off the train -- to which she replies, "I thought you'd never ask!" Which has me thinking the two of them did a little bit of, uh, good-bying off-camera.

Edited to add: Ah, didn't read that quite right, that Artie got the girl and Jim didn't. Never mind...

Jim to the cowboy (is he named in the credits?) in Running Death before the infamous fight scene.

You got it, tomk! I thought it would be easy.

I don't know if his name was in the credits---gotta go check, but it was Red West, who's always on the show as one of the bad guys. That was one of his rare speaking parts though. Funny-I remember RC saying Red was hurt pretty badly in that scene when RC smashed him into the piano. Red was actually bleeding from it and had a head injury for REAL!!

Anyways--you're up.

D. E.:I don't know if his name was in the credits---gotta go check, but it was Red West

The actor Red doubled is Ken Swofford, who appears before and after the fight to say the lines ("me and the inner man"). And, yes, we have it on good authority from several sources that Red's head met the business end of a non-breakaway Steinway. I believe it was Conrad who said that the slogan on set was "Roll the film and call the ambulances."

Thanks ccb- Yeah I always did wonder just a bit if it really was Red West doing the talking too--I knew the rest of the story, but assumed Red did the whole scene. They have a very remarkable resemblance but there still was something different.

Thanks for clearing that up, ccb!!

It's not Artie in TNOT Cutthroats is it? When he and Sally are riding to the fort, she pulls a gun on him, he takes it away--then Trayne shows up to take Artie captive. He says something like that, but I'm not sure if it's exactly those words.

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.
