Falcon, I think you're going to have to give us more obscure clues.

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: It's a pleasure.

The villain did more than one W3 episode.

Is it by any chance Jim in "The Night of the Eccentrics"?

OK, I have watched one season 2 ep after another (oh the torture!) and haven't found this. I think you may have to be a little more "forward" with your clues for us floundering souls, Falcon!

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: It's a pleasure.

The writer borrowed a scene from a famous book.

No kisses, international element, villain in more than one episode...

Was it Jim in "The Night of the Feathered Fury"?

Finally found it (I hope). The clue that the villain appeared in more than one episode threw all of us off, I think. I immediately thought of Loveless and the good count, but what you meant was that the actor playing the villain also was in the role of a villain in another elsewhere. Nehemiah Persoff as Adam Barclay here, and as Major Hazard in Underground Terror.

Anyhoo... Adam Barclay to Jim in TNOT Deadly Blossom regarding the husky henchman Palea (sp?).

And of course the scene was stolen from Poe's Pit and the Pendulum.

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: It's a pleasure.

Correct answer by CG. Regarding the villain clue, I could have worded that better...I didn't think of it the way you did.

I'm not sure if I would have come up with it any sooner--without the literary clue! I'll be back to see if I can break your record for how long the question lasted!

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.

Well, let's try this from season 1:

They weren’t shot.

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.

Nope. Not Elisha, not Double-Edged Knife.

James: Thanks, Artie.

I guess a clue is in order:

When you think about it, only one of our heroes was actually present.

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.

Another clue:

The doctor is not unfrequently death's pilot-fish.
- George Denison Prentice

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?

Remember, a certain doctor appeared in other episodes.

Is it Jim from "The Night of the Murderous Plague" (in which Artie doesn't really show up [Jim's hallucinating] until act 3)?

You mean Murderous Spring, but no. Not that one. (And it's not really Jim who speaks. )

James: Thanks, Artie.

I'll be darned. Wild guesses do work sometimes.

I'll find a quote today in between baking pumpkin pies...

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?

OK, munch on this along with your turkey.

Season 2

This is going to be one of those days when nothing goes right.

James: Thanks, Artie.
