Season 1:

You’re too good to me.

Clue #1:
Where there's smoke, there's fire.
- American Proverb

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: It's a pleasure.

Ah, Flaming Ghost then.

I still think Artie is talking to Jim - possibly when Jim gives Artie his choice between tracking the missing copper or the missing kerosene, while Jim has already chosen to go track down the girl.

Flaming Ghost is a favorite of mine, especially since I remember the ear business from seeing the series when I was a kid!

Ok, new quote:

As usual, pretty sure I know the episode, so I'll make a wild guess. [If I'm wrong, others please join in with guesses on the speaker!]

Big bad Roach in Fire & Brimstone

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.

The episode is RIGHT. (I was pretty sure those last two clues would give that part away.)

The speaker, though: nope, not Roach.

I had a good idea of the episode after the 4th clue, but the last couple cinched it.

How about Morton as the speaker?

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: It's a pleasure.

I think it just hit me.

Jim, when Artie asks him which passageway to follow in the caverns.

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.

Really, the fourth clue? That clue was intended to be misleading, pointing towards the tag of, oh, one of the Jeremy Pike episodes, the one where he and Jim get that highly annoying wax recording of the young woman giggling as she passes on a message from Artie.

But moving on to more immediate concerns: yes! The line is spoken by Jim to Artie while picking which way to go once they are underground. Good job and your turn, Cal Gal!

Season 4:

Oh, no, you’re mistaken sir.

Clue #1:
What is it to grow old?
Is it to lose the glory of the form,
The lustre of the eye?
Is it for Beauty to forego her wreath?
Yes; but not this alone.
- Matthew Arnold, Growing Old

James: Thanks, Artie.

Boy, your hint seems like a total giveaway...but, I'll take a chance and not confirm it using my DVD set.

Yes, I thought it would be a total giveaway. But I don't mind. I'm going to be busy the next couple of days and might not be able to add new clues regularly. My next clue was going to be "Mayfly" or "Ephemera."

So, you are right. Go for it!

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?

Yup...my last clue should have said "spoken to a woman" only, which would have made it more challenging.
