For pity's sake: If after six clues no one has this, then I'll interpose myself. It's Artie, addressing the clobbered drunk in Rose's pub: "The Night of the Ready-Made Corpse."

At the risk of presumption, I have my next line. Concocting obscure clues is what slays me.

I was going to say that your obscure clues are suitably obscure, and that the only 'narf' I know is what Pinky used to say in Pinky and the Brain...

When suddenly it hit me! Aunt Martha's assistant clerk, speaking to Artie, in TNOT Human Trigger.

(So the compass confusion is Burgess Meredith calling Jim 'Mr North' - but I have no idea what the tiger and elephants refer to.)

I was on a roll! Here I was, worried I wouldn't think of a single obscure clue, when they began to roll out of me like chocolates on Lucy and Ethel's conveyor belt.

NARF: The Native American Relief Fund, which would beat prissy Aunt Martha with a stick.

Watching their quarry from above, Artemus refers to Faith and her brothers as a "lady tiger and her two elephants."

But I never had a chance to throw at you—

"E = mc2, tennis, and a spittoon"
"The opposite of Mary Waggoner"
And, finally, some crossover joke about Arnold the Pig—

—because niecie nicked it.

I'll now crawl back into my knothole. Take it away!

Do come back soon, ccb!

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: It's a pleasure.

Vienna reminded me of Artie's geologist disguise, and then I remembered that Cadwallader had been a professor at Harvard, therefore Boston. And that's when I remembered the clerk's smug query of 'Guess who?'

Ok, new quote:

Artie as the colonel in TNOT Freebooters, possibly to Wolfe?

James: Thanks, Artie.

You have the episode right! But not the speaker nor the spoken-to.

(And I am amazed you got the episode on the one clue!)

I remembered the line where Artie wants to go in disguise as a general and Jim shoots him down. Instant demotion!

Have to think about it more. If anyone else has a guess about the speaker and spoken to, please jump in!

Trying to think of a clue that points to the scene; I usually come up with clues to indicate the episode in general...

Clue the second:
Windbag.

Wolfe to his top henchman, whose name I can't think of (in TNOT Freebooters)?

James: Thanks, Artie.
Artemus: "Thanks Artie"! Is that all you can say to me? I've just come back from the grave, risen like Lazarus, and that's what you say? "Thanks, Artie"?
