Litttle Jewel hurriedly closed the door and went to the entrance in this room to the mansion's interconnecting secret passages. What sharp eyes he had! And a sharp mind, too, to suggest they leave a second floor that was getting as crowded as the first had been, and meet upstairs. Surely this man of mystery was the one to help her out of this terrible mess.

Meanwhile, West suddenly struck the vial from Mercier's hand. It spun across the room and exploded upon impact with a large potted shrub.

"I thought that reaction looked familiar," he commented. "Artie scared the horses pretty badly one time when he got that kind of smoke and barely managed to toss the beaker he was working with against the front wall of his lab before it blew up. He complained for week about the smell of the stables interfering with his experiments, before I finally hired a carpenter to fix the hole just to shut him up."

"But Mr. West," Mercier protested, "there should have been no reason for those chemicals to react in that manner."

"Unless it was a planned trap," West pointed out. "I'm assuming any chemist who could concoct that that drug could design it so that the most logical tests to perform on it would cause it to explode?"

"It would be possible, but I don't like to theorize on the after-effects the additions might have on anyone who fell victim to the drug." Mercier paused. "For whom do you suspect the trap was laid?" he asked. "Just any chemist, or perhaps specifically for your partner, Mr. Gordon?"

Jim was stunned for a moment. "Artemus Gordon?"

"Well, you yourself said he was a brilliant chemist, Mr. West..." Suddenly, Roderick realized what he was saying. "Oh, uh, I mean, maybe he came up with the substance, and--and Finch stole it, somehow..."

Jim gazed at Roderick with a look that made the British agent shrink a couple inches. "If that was the case, then Artemus certainly was quick to leave me with the substance, now wasn't he?"

Roderick swallowed, not daring to agree.

Jim glanced over at the smoking plant, letting out a long sigh. "Whoever's behind this has to be devious enough to have gotten into a party full of Secret Agents--which is fairly unlikely unless he or she is one; intelligent enough to concoct a powder that would explode when tested; and blood-thirsty enough to have killed one man tonight, and tried to kill another when suspicion arose." He looked pointedly at Roderick. "And Artie isn't one to kill without good reason--namely, his own life at stake."

The British agent bit his lip. "So...maybe it's Finch, then?" Roderick asked tentatively. "Maybe he died because someone thought you would suspect him of wrongdoing."

"I don't know if I would have suspected him--I wasn't closely associated with Finch. The only reason I knew he wasn't a chemist was because Artemus told me."

Roderick's eyebrows rose. "Did Mr. Gordon work with him?"

"Briefly--he practically ordered Washington to get him a new lab partner at the Secret Service Department when Finch blew up the west end of the building."

"Mr. Gordon must've been pretty brave to come to this party tonight, if he knew Finch was on the guest list." Roderick smiled. "So what did I miss, Mr. West? I mean, before I got here."

Jim's hesitation was clear to Roderick. "Well, a bit, actually.

"First, a woman in red; Mr. Stone and Ms. Silver both seem to know something about her, but won't say just what.

"Second: the person who was arguing with Finch, just before he was murdered; we haven't decided if it was man or woman.

"Third: the safety pin. Now, my initial theory was that it was not to be used as a needlepoint to administer the drug, but as a way to get into places."

"You mean a lock pick?" Roderick blinked in surprise. "But that's absurd--safety pins bend too easily."

"Possibly--but then there's the woman's handkerchief. I think that both items were planted on Finch."

"The handkerchief to make it seem female, and the safety pin to make Finch's exploits seem unlawful." Roderick shook his head. "This is fantastic."

"I wouldn't say it in those words, exactly, but it's complicated--I'll give it that." Jim glanced towards the library. "And then there's Mr. Stone's assailant--somebody must think that he knows too much."

"Maybe he does." Roderick, followed Jim's gaze. "Maybe we should have a little chat with him."

"My thoughts exactly."

Stone walked into the room and saw the young blonde. Her hair was a mess, her eyeliner running, and her dress rumpled. she looked beautiful. Stone then saw blood on her dress he quickly came to her.
"Are you hurt?" Stone asked worriedly.
"No it is your blood" Jewel said touched by his consern for her, a complete stranger, after he himself had just been hurt. then an explosion shook the house.

"Well. What do you know."

The two agents gazed into the lavishly furnished library, and found it to be empty and in silence, save the crackle of the flames in the fireplace.

"He was shot in the arm, wasn't he?"

Jim nodded. "He must be the Iron Man--he looked like he was a dead man walking when I saw them bringing him here."

"Things aren't always as they seem, it seems," Roderick replied.

"How did you get my blood on you?" Stone couldn't understand what the young woman was saying.

"I was there when you got hit, remember? You saved me from the bullet, you wonderful, brave man." She stood on tiptoe and tugged at his shoulders, and when he bent down to her, she kissed his cheek firmly. "Thank you."

Jim and Roderick began an orderly search of the ground floor. Jim looked into a well-furnished music room, then began to withdraw quietly. He realized just exactly what it was he'd seen, and cleared his throat. "Artemus," he called.

There was a moment of silence, and then an exasperated sigh. "What, James?" came the reply from the music room.

"If you can get your lips off Miss Silver's, we do have a murder to solve."

"Just administering a little therapuetic..."

"I know. I saw. Now come on and give us a hand, will you?"

Jim heard a soft footfall approach from behind, and glanced quickly over his shoulder to see Roderick.

"Jim, did you say Miss Silver is in there with Artemus?"

"I'm afraid so," Jim admitted.

"You're just jealous because nobody's kissed you tonight," Artie's voice came from within.

"Jim, remember what I was saying about that drug. Maybe he should keep an eye on her, to be sure there are no further ill effects."

Artie immediately appeared in the doorway, pulling Agent Silver along by the hand. "What do you mean, 'further ill effects'?" he demanded.

"Well, in case you didn't hear that little explosion earlier," Jim explained, "We've discovered that the knock-out drug that was evidently on that safety pin may have been tampered with to make it explode, like that stuff you used to add an extra window from your lab to the stables."

"Oh." Artie looked worried as he turned to Silver. "Are you feeling okay?" he asked her.

"Well, a little dizzy, maybe, but I don't think it has anything to do with that drug."

Artie smirked at Jim.

"Don't think I'm going to let a little thing like this sideline me, gentlemen," Silver insisted. "I'm in this investigation until we solve it."

"Maybe you'd better stick with me, though," Artie suggested. "Just so I can keep an eye on you."

"Somehow," commented Roderick, "I don't get the impression the lady will mind that very much."

"Yeah, I can see what you mean," Jim responded, shaking his head as his partner and the lady agent both grinned.

Just then the four of them heard an angry shout from above.

"Chicky!" exclaimed Roderick. "And she sounds like someone is either in trouble or about to be." He sprinted for the stairs, with Jim, Artie and Silver close behind him.

Stone pulled back from the delicate flower and brushed a strand of hair out of her face. "Now what did you need to tell m-" Stone was cut short by the sound of a scream.
Stone ran for the door.
"What was that?" the blonde inquired
"A friend" Stones said as he ran ou the door his revolver drawn "in trouble"

A woman in an emerald green dress sat by the window staring at the body. Her auburn hair was pulled up with ringlets framing her face. Her long lashes were slightly wet from silent tears. As soon as the agents had left the room, she dabbed her eyes with her hankie and hurried over to inspect the body.

Everyone in the party had steered clear of Fitch once they had seen what happened to Miss Silver. In quiet hushed tones they were all discussing what had happened and wild theories were flying around the room. As people are prone to do, the gossip about Mr. Finch soon took on proportions of their own. So engrossed were the people that they hardly noticed a woman with a hankie approaching the body.

"Oh, Finch." she sobbed to herself, "you always were such a klutz."

Stone being a level up was just coming down the stairs as a figure dressed in dark clothing slapped agent Brooks knocking her down.
"You lay one more hand on her and you will have more hell to pay than you already do." Stone said aiming the pistol at the man who had so violently attacked the young agent.
"Move over to the far wall." Stone said coldly to the dark clothed man, as he walked to the fallen Brooks. "Are you alright ma'am?" Stone asked with consern and compasion in his voice and eyes.

"Yeah, just spectacular." She stumbled, but Agent Stone grabbed her arm, and she smiled as he helped her to her feet.

"Now," Lexi said, brushing her dress free of the dust accumulating on the floorboards. Then, with one fluid motion, she pulled a .45 revolver seemingly out of nowhere, startling her companion.

"Let's start the interrogation," she said coldly.

Pidge Morgan knelt down beside the body. She quickly dabbed her eyes and cradled Finch's face in her hands. Finding nothing out of the ordinary, she gently moved his head and examined his neck. Two small puncture wounds the size of a pinprick with only slight bruising.

Puzzled, she pats down his jacket carefully. Hmmm. Sounds like crinkled paper. Not wishing to repeat Silver's feinting spell, she very carefully takes a pen and pulls open an inside pocket. Peering in, all she can see is a printed page. Oh so carefully, she slowly pulls it out and opens it up. It is an average printed flyer advertising Dr. Jeremiah Mersonoff's new health tonic. She almost discarded it until she noticed some of the wording underlined.

"My poor poor Finch. You never were any good at chemistry but you did know something about codes..."

"Question number one--who are you?"

The dark-clothed man was silent, though you could see his feet shifting ever so slightly.

Agent Stone smirked. "May I do the honors, Lexi?"

"Be my guest."

In a flash of movement, Agent Stone wrenched the mask off of the man, and gaped. "Oh my God..."

Lexi's jaw dropped. "You!"

Silver caught Artemus' arm just as the reached the top of the stairs. "Look," she exclaimed.

Artemus followed her gesture to spot the woman kneeling below beside the body of the murdered Finch. "Well, who do you suppose that is?" he wondered aloud.

"Her hair isn't as dark, and her gown is more of a jewel-tone, but I'm guessing she may be the woman Mr. Stone mistook for me before."

"My very thought. She seems considerably more broken up about Finch being killed than the rest of us were."

"What is she doing?" Silver exclaimed. "Surely she can see that great stab wound in the middle of his chest?"

"I think she's searching him, and you have to give her credit for learning from our mistakes. See how carefully she removing something from his inside coat pocket?"

"Oh, no," Silver exclaimed. "We never did finish searching him, did we? And I'm afraid it's my fault."

"Well, things did get pretty lively right about then." Artie looked around and spotted his partner stepping foward to confront the dark-clothed man WWWchicky and Stone had captured. "I think the rest of them have got things under control up here. What do you say we go find out what that paper is our mystery woman just pulled out of Finch's pocket?" He grabbed Silver's hand and led her stealthily back down the stairs.

The disfigured man stared up at Ms.Brooks and Stone. His face burned beyond recognision.
"How could anybody have lived after being burned like that?" Brooks asked.
Before Stone could answer they were swarmed by all the other guest.
In the few seconds that the guest were shocked by the man on the floors disfigured face Stone slipped away from the group.

Pidge notices the commotion behind her, quickly folds the paper and slips it into her bodice.

"Finchy, my friend, I have to go. Time waits for no one and your death must be avenged. I promise. The fiend that did this to you will be brought to justice."

Casting a quick glance behind her, Pidge hurriedly stands up, adjusts her dress and makes a quick exit.

"Hup! Careful." Artie pressed his companion back into the shadows near the foot of the stairs as he saw Pidge look around. "We don't want her to see us."

"Why not?" Silver responded quietly. "I'm sure we can catch her if she tries to run for it."

"I just thought it might be nice to see what she does next."

"I hope you mean besides shoving that paper down her..."

"I mean as in she appears to be preparing to leave."

The woman was indeed slipping into the foyer, and the pair of agents hurried to get an angle where they could continue to watch her unseen.

"Yep, she's putting on her things," Artie commented. "Can you be quick about grabbing yours? We don't want to lose her in the dark out there."

"All I have is a warm cape and a muff. I think I can put those on as fast as you can your hat and coat."

As soon as the door clicked shut behind Pidge, the two dashed for the cloakroom. Artie grinned when he turned from reaching his hat down off the shelf to see Silver swirl a silver-fox fur-trimmed, hooded cloak about her shoulders. She already had a matching muff shoved up one arm. He was tying the collar of his own cape as he followed her to the door. She paused to finish fastening her collar pin while Artie opened the door a crack and searched for their target.

"She's taking a foot-path into the woods," he reported. Then he added; "I hope that thing really is warm, because the weather has turned a lot colder during the evening. It looks like it may even start snowing."

"I'm willing to bet it's warmer than that opera cape you've got on." Silver was clearly miffed about Artemus' seeming poor estimation of her common sense.

"Good, we may just have to share it if this trip takes very long." Artemus chuckled and bowed her out the door.

Stone look around and saw Ms. Silver and Mr. Gordan hurring towards the coat closet. He wondering why they were rushing off held back then decended the stairs in rapid sucession. He opened the closet and removed his own coat and hat. He put the black overcoat on but left it unbuttoned for easy access to his revolver. He put his black flatcrowned hat on and was out the door. he followed the pair and realized they were following a woman as well. the woman greatly resembled Ms. Silver from a distance.

OOC: ok you folks have me going into the woods, huh? Hmmm.

(In character):

Looking around briefly, Pidge hurries down the footpath into the woods. She pulls her coat a little tighter around her. She notices a man and woman leaving soon after her so she hurries a little faster. She pulls the hood of her coat up over her head for more warmth. As soon as she has a little distance between them and is out of sight (temporarily) she scampers off the beaten path and hides behind a very large tree, getting as low to the ground as she can to avoid being seen.

Soon the man and woman appear on the path. The woman is a little out of breath and leans on the man.

"I...think...we've...lost her." She says.

Taking advantage of his opportunity, Artemus wraps his arm around Silver and says, "Well...for the time being." He gently kisses her lips and whispers something in her ear that causes her to perk up.

"what?" she whispers back, perhaps a little loudly.

Nuzzling her ear, he again whispers, "She's been down this way. In fact, she may even be nearby. Now, just follow my lead."

"Ohh. Wherever you lead, Artemus."

"My dear, did you lose something?" his voice all of a sudden booms.
"Here, let me retrieve that for you. And come now, perhaps it IS too cold out for you today. Let's go to to a little place that I know of...someplace for a warm beverage to revive you, my sweet."

Pidge smirks. "Little romantic rendezvous, hmmm? Artemus moves fast." Not willing to reveal herself as of yet, Pidge settles herself in for a wait. She is much too careful to trust anyone yet. Not until she knows who she is dealing with. "That was Finchy's failing" she rues to herself.

She sits back...and waits.

Stone saw the two stop and he halted. He watched as they leaned in for a kiss. Stone stepped off the path and into the woods. The pair moved on a little and Stone advanced. Ever cautious and steath-like. Ahead of him movement in the woods halted him. It was the woman in green who had sat at the bar. Revolver drawn he advanced. He sifted the gun to his left hand. Fire shot up his arm into his shoulder. He gritted his teeth and advanced slowly. He came up behind the woman and clamped his right hand over her mouth. Drawing her back deeper into the dense forest.
"uuummmm" The woman protested through Stones hand.
"quit" Stone whispered. "Now even if you dont believe this i am not here to hurt you. I just want some information. So can we talk? If i move my hand are you going to scream?"

"I want us to split up for a minute," Artie added in an undertone. "I'll circle around clockwise, you go the other way. Maybe we can surprise her. Now, act like I just made an improper suggestion."

"I assume you mean the way a lady would act?" Silver winked. Then she hauled back and struck her fellow agent across the face with a cupped hand - it made a lot of noise without stinging too much.

"Well, really, Mr. Gordon!" She clutched her cape about her and turned her shoulder toward him. "I hardly thought you were the sort to try to take advantage of a fellow-agent just because she's a woman!" She turned and fled back up the path.

"So much for all you girl spies claiming you're not really any different from men!" Artemus shouted after her, one hand covering his 'slapped' cheek. He huffed for a moment, then shook himself and looked around. "I might as well walk for a while, give us both time to cool off," he added in a normal tone. He turned and headed on down the path in the direction they had been following before. Once he'd moved sufficiently far away to not be visible from anywhere around where they had stopped, he stepped quietly off the path and began his circle.

It wasn't long before he heard a slight scuffling in the underbrush ahead of him. He dashed forward and then, as he rounded a bush, skidded to a stop.

That Stone character certainly got around a lot. "Ooh!" Artie grunted in sympathy as the second lady in a green dress drove her elbow into Stone's ribs and grabbed the wrist of the hand covering her mouth. Stone did a very creditable job of spinning out of the judo throw she started to put on him, and the pair went into fighting stances facing one another.

"Okay, folks, I hate to interrupt, but this isn't getting us anywhere."

Both stepped back and half-turned to face Artemus, in almost perfect mirror movement.

"The party certainly seems to have moved out of doors now, doesn't it?" he asked them mildly. "But I think it's about time we observed a few of the proprieties. Artemus Gordon, senior field operative, United States Secret Service." He bowed mockingly. "Young Mr. Stone, you might at least introduce yourself to a lady before you manhandle her. And I would be most charmed to meet you officially, ma'am."

Before either could speak, he suddenly held up one hand with a frown furrowing his brow. "Do you hear anything?" he asked.

Both shook their heads in response.

"Neither do I. Silver should have had plenty of time to circle back by now." He moved toward the path, scanning the forrest surrounding them. "She actually made me forget I was keeping an eye on her for any ill effects from that knock-out drug she got."

Pidge is totally incensed.

"Help me?? Is that what you call it?? Dragging me further into the woods?? That's helping someone?? What do you do when you're annoyed, mister??!! No! Does that word ring a bell for you?? NO!!!"

And with that Pidge quickly yanks off one of her decorative buttons from her dress and throws it down before the two men.

An eerie blue gas emits from it quickly overcoming Artemus and Stone. Pidge holds the hankie over her mouth and makes her escape.

As she leaves, she spots Silver rounding the corner.

"Hurry!! They're unconscious! Better go for help!!"

Pidge races back to the mansion and hurries herself inside before anyone else can stop her.

"Tie him to that chair, Mr. Longley--you two, guard the doors!"

Lexi was ruling dictator of the mansion at the moment, ordering around party guests to different positions in the house. She would have let Mr. West take over at this point, but he had left the room shortly after the black-clothed man had been brought in.

"Is this really all that necessary?" Roderick asked, narrowly avoiding the two men hurrying towards their prisoner.

"It's very necessary--he's a wanted criminal."

"Who is he?"

Lexi gazed at her date, miffed by his questions. "Look, Roderick--how many people do you know have violet eyes? It's definately him!"

"Who?!"

"Oh my God--how dense can you be? It's Marlo Finch!"

Roderick blinked. "Who?"

"UGH--Okay, you remember that failed attempt to rid the Denver treasury of a few millions last year?" She pointed towards the man being dragged across the room. "Genius Marlo, here, tried to blow the vaults open, and instead blew up all his colleagues."

"But I thought no one survived that..."

"Of course--no one they found afterwards. They didn't know exactly how many people would be in the operation, but they did know Marlo was behind it."

Roderick was bewildered. "What are you talking about? How could they have known? Everyone was dead!"

"Not before the blast--one of Marlo's men got antsy and squeaked to the police. The entire department was waiting to get Marlo for big charges when the fire broke out. They were too busy saving the United States economy to notice if their might be someone sneaking out."

"But what does this have anything to do with anything?"

"Do I have to spell it out?!" Lexi smacked her forehead. "Marlo Finch is John Finch's brother!!!"

At this remark, the whole room fell silent, even the struggling Marlo.

Roderick stared at Lexi. "That's...Finch's brother?"

"No, I'm just saying that to mess with you--OF COURSE IT'S HIM!" Lexi gave him a irritated look. "My God, Roderick--how did you ever get into the Secret Service?"

"Appearently, I had charm," he replied, frowning at Marlo.

Stone stumbles backward coughing and sputtering from the gas. The drug begins to take affect of his body. He falls backward down a sloping embankment. His half conscience mind tries to guide his body but it is to no affect. He hits the ground hard. Breaking through a hidden wooden platform. His unconscience body fall to the dirt floor. The hole above him can not be seen from above because the tall grass covers it.

James West was about to make a very pointed comment about the investigative technique being used by the young agents, but he decided against it, as they at least seemed to have the sense to lock their prisoner up.

West himself felt there were other things that more urgently needed investigation - for instance, he seemed to be the only one who realized that there were too many mysterious things going on in this house for one person to have perpetrated them all. Besides, the pitiful speciman that had been captured was unarmed, and it didn't seem very likely that whomever had shot Agent Stone would have abandoned their gun in the midst of so many enemies.

West quietly slipped away from the arguing group and went back upstairs to do a little quiet, careful investigation. It was about time at least one task got properly performed around here.

Without the distraction of constant screams and shots, and without anyone getting in his way, it didn't take long to find a suspicious panel in the upstairs hallway. He'd dealt with enough hidden passages to know the common triggers, and a twist of a decorative bit of lathing soon caused the panel to spring open.

"Who tends all these gaslights and torches in these things, anyway?" West muttered to himself as he followed the well-lit passage. "Somehow, I don't see most people who have them wanting to share the information with the servants!"

He turned a corner, and looked with mild astonishment at a glittering gilded birdcage of human proportions that hung ovrhead, and at the lovely, tiny blonde trapped within it.

In the meantime, his partner was in a bit of a precarious position. Having been caught off guard by the mystery woman's surprise gas attack, Artemus had collapsed in a heap where he stood. Only moments later, Silver stumbled across his unconscious form. She dropped gasping beside him, and lifted his head into her lap.

"I'm afraid I'm in no condition to ..." she struggled for breath. "Curse who-ever concocted that drug!" With this exclamation of frustration, she gave up trying to speak, realizing it was a waste of breath when the only other person around was unconscious. Instead, she checked to make sure he was unhurt, then wrapped the generous folds of her warm cape around them both and settled in to wait for his recovery.

She soon joined him in his senseless state.

"Lexi, could you stop yelling?!?!"

Lexi motioned the agents away, and walked over to meet Roderick at the edge of the room. "What's up?"

Roderick blinked in surprise for a moment, but continued with what he had planned to say. "There are something about this case that are really bugging me."

"Such as?"

"Such as, why would Stone suddenly up and leave, when he had just been shot and was losing blood? Why didn't he just lie where he was put?"

"Maybe he had a date," Lexi replied, smirking. "He's not the only eligible bachelor at this party, you know."

"Very funny--but what if he was?"

"Was what?"

"Heading out for a date?"

"You mean to meet someone?" Lexi thought a moment. "That would mean that someone at this party needed to confide in him..." Her eyes widened. "Wait a minute--the blond! He was delirious, but he said something about a blond..."

"So he probably went looking off for her." He looked around the room, which had become pretty orderly after a few shouting sessions. "My guess is that whoever the blond is isn't a guest at this party."

"And they weren't going to discuss the stock market, I bet." Lexi made a fist, slamming it into her palm. "Darn--he should have told me, but NO! He just runs off with some blond..."

Roderick looked at her in surprise, as she added sheepishly, "He owes me a round of gin."

"Marvelous." Roderick thought a moment. "How about we look upstairs?"

Lexi looked at him. "Why?"

"I don't know--why not?" Roderick said, a little tactfully. Lexi may be intelligent and witty, but she certainly wasn't being logical at the moment. Must be she was heady from ordering around half of the Secret Service, or...Roderick wasn't sure where to put Mr. Stone in the scheme of things.

"Oh, um, I don't know." She blushed. "Sorry--things are getting complicated around here..."

Roderick nodded sullenly. "I know."

"...But then there's the woman in the red dress..."

Lexi stopped. "You know about her?"

"Jim filled me in on some of the details."

"Oh." As she walked on, Lexi was unconsciously looking around her. "What about the woman in the red dress?"

"I'm not sure--I just think it's weird that we haven't seen her among the party guests yet."

"Maybe she was only meant to make one appearance during the party, and then poof!--she's history...like Lady Godiva."

"I don't think Lady Godiva was wearing a red dress."

"I don't think she was wearing anything at all--the point is, our Lady Red has hidden herself away in this house very nicely, and would rather stay put than throw herself out in a sea of Secret Service Agents."

"Was Finch married?"

Lexi blinked. "What? Um...I don't know--I don't think so. Why?"

"Had he been married?"

"What are you talking about?"

"The voice--Jim told me about some voice that was arguing with Finch just before he died."

"Ooohhhh--I see. So you think Lady Red is our killer?"

"Just a thought."

"Not a bad one--for you, anyway."

Roderick laughed. "How did I ever end up as your date for the party?"

Lexi didn't reply.

"Lexi. Le--"

Roderick whirled around. He was alone.

stone woke from his unintentional slumber. his mind was still groggy. He stood on wobbly legs and fell against the wall of the structure. Pain shot through his battered left shoulder. "Damn" he hissed. He righted himself then looked around. The passage was light and angled upward. He looked at the dirt floor and saw, to his amazement, his revolver. He picked it up and started to slowly walk forward.

Out of character: Mr. Schemes, WWWChicky, Silver. We need to conference. There are things you don't know about Pidge yet that you need to know. Well, Silver knows but you other two don't yet. We probably should come up with some basic rules, too. Just so this thing moves smoothly, ok? Otherwise, we're just jumping around.

Check your emails.

"Lexi, this isn't funny!"

Roderick, crawling around on his knees, poked his head under furniture, coughing as dust filled his nostrils.

"Lexi? Where are you hiding?"

Sighing, he rose to his feet, gazing around on the floor for footprints. "This is marvelous," he muttered. "I come to a party, after twenty weeks of assignment, looking for a little entertainment and good liquor, and suddenly I'm caught up in a bloody murder investigation. What the...?"

Roderick stared. The footprints stopped in the middle of the floor, the last pair on a slightly indented square of carpet.

"Oh, joy," he growled.
